DECA is completely underfunded at Encinal High School. It is a student based club and is the ONLY educational club which provides career opportunities and experiences.
In previous years, DECA hasn't really been taken seriously but the past year we achieved success at competitions, gaining knowledge and work experience for DECA members. We have worked hard for what we want and strive EVERY SINGLE DAY in order to keep the opportunity alive however recently we have ran into a fork in the road.
We had been running a student based store, "The Jet Hangar" at Encinal High School and I know that at Alameda High School there was a store as well. Recently the School District has decided to shut stores at both locations. Apparently we are "taking money away from the cafeteria". We make approx. 2% of what they make in a year and we believe that to be completely selfish. Not only is this a disappointment all around, but it is going to be a HUGE hindrance on our finances.
The products from the store get purchased by the teachers of DECA, NOT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. That is money out of their pockets. The profited moneys go towards club fees which can result in about $15,000 for a year.
We ask that you sign this petition, so that we can get the store back up and running. Thank you in advance for your support.

DECA Secretary- Encinal High School
Seeing this level of support for our store is overwhelming because it proves that our community understands the value of what we are building. I started this to keep our club alive after losing the only way we fund our future, and watching people rally behind us gives me real hope that we can change the district's mind.

The school cafeteria is always closed or empty anyway. Let the students run their own business and learn something.

Ridiculous. DECA kids work hard and actually learn real world skills. Leave them alone.

Unbelievable. Why shut down something that actually prepares students for the future? Typical school board nonsense.

My son is in DECA and he loves it. This is a huge mistake for the school.
