We, the undersigned, ask that the Kansas state legislature help support victims of domestic violence by helping implement early lease termination rights in Kansas.

Currently, there is no state statute in Kansas that protects tenants who are victims of domestic violence. If we were to parallel California's actions in this aspect, Victims of domestic violence would be allowed to terminate their lease early with no financial repercussions. This would be done if within 60 days of the incident the victim is able to provide their landlord with a police report or order of protection and a written notice. This will allow victims of domestic violence to get out of their current residence and move somewhere safer quickly and without risking financial backlash.

Domestic violence has gone on for far too long, and with your help we can help end this toxic cycle.
