Albemarle County Schools has partnered with a tower developer (Milestone Communications) to propose building a new cell tower at Western Albemarle High School. This tower will generate recurring lease revenue to help offset County School expenses. This tower will also improve the County Schools' wireless broadband service for our students and teachers. Further, this tower will also significantly improve the in-building coverage of traditional wireless carriers (e.g., Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.) at Brownsville Elementary, Henley Middle School, and Western Albemarle High School, inclusive of emergency 911 service. The County Schools have proposed placing this 145 foot tall monopole tower at the varsity football field of Western Albemarle High School, adjacent to existing light poles and tree buffering. A photo simulation of this proposed 145 foot tower is included in the adjacent picture. While the County Board of Supervisors has previously approved a similar tower at Albemarle County High School, we really need your help to obtain County approval on this proposed tower. I have been spending my time meeting with school board members to explain why better reception is a safety necessity for our kids. Hearing from families who struggle to get a signal during an emergency confirms that we are fighting for the right cause.

Seeing this level of support for the new tower at Western Albemarle warms my heart because I know firsthand how frustrating it is to deal with dropped calls in the middle of a school emergency. Our goal is to keep our kids safe and connected, and this surge in momentum proves that I am not alone in this fight.

I strongly support this application. I live in Old Trail and do not have strong service in my home, and my children attend Henley and Western and participate in after-school activities and we often have a hard time communicating with them to arrange rides. This will also improve service along the Interstate near the Crozet exit, where I regularly drop calls.
We live less than 1 mile from WAHS and have no reliable high speed internet access to our private property. It is a daily challenge for my 2 students to complete their homework successfully and we are constantly rationing the bandwidth available to us. Please consider all the stakeholders when making this decision, it will greatly benefit the young men and women of our community who lack access to reliable high speed internet in their homes!

My name is Leah Daniel. My address is 352 Grayrock Drive in Crozet. Please accept this as my support for the proposed cell phone tower at Western Albemarle High School. The schools need more funding, and we all need more reliable wireless service in Crozet.
