If you would like to see RISD develop a strategic plan to support smaller neighborhood schools that are integrated with their communities please sign this petition.
Ideally the goal of the neighborhood school strategy would target 4 class sections per grade level and the school would be within a short walking distance of your home. There would be sufficient green space for all of our children as well as community activities. This would translate into K-6 elementary schools with a targeted enrollment of ~ 664 students.
This petition would also directly oppose elementary schools with more than 1,000 students and any expansion request that takes an elementary school over 1,000 students.

We are approaching one hundred signatures and need to cross this threshold to secure a formal meeting with the school board members. Please send the link to three local residents to ensure we reach this goal before the end of the week.

I am a WRE resident. I support redrawing attendance zones to combat overcrowding. Ultimately a new school should be built, and the district should already be scouting locations.
Please consider other options besides enlarging schools. Not only does the community not want 1000 student schools or to give up any more of our much used playground space but we want to see a plan to promotes property value growth in other neighborhoods besides White Rock. It does not benefit the greater LH community to keep making WRE larger.
My husband and I have lived here for 51 years. All 3 of our children were fortunate to have attended WRE This school was and should continue to be the center of the community. To lose that would be so sad
We have lived in WRV for 16 years. We only have one child who attends private school. We chose private school because of the overcrowding problem. However we still care very much about what happens to our neighborhood school. We support this petition.
I do not support the idea of adding more classrooms on to already larger elementary schools. Part of what makes the Lake Highlands community appealing is that we are NOT a suburban mega school neighborhood. Please help us keep it that way.

LH clearly needs additional schools for both our immediate and future growth. We must avoid overcrowded classes, one of the greatest ways for children to "slip through the cracks". I like the 5th & 6th grade center as an immediate help to all elementary schools. Rezoning is likely inevitable, but may be a lot further down the road with this addition. As tax payers, this money spent without a very clear breakdown and complete transparency is unacceptable. We pay one of the higher school taxes and have one of the, (maybe the best), voulonteer groups to be found. Happy to do both for our kids. Our schools are the very reason many families move here. That is something we can all be proud of having been a part of it. Quality education and educators...LH.

Increasing the size of WRE will reduce the community feel and the quality of our children's education (less or limited art, music, PE, library, etc...) due to the large number of students. Please consider a review of the boundary lines, moving sixth graders to the middle school, or adding an additional elementary school in the area.
