Support Neighborhood Schools in RISD

LH clearly needs additional schools for both our immediate and future growth. We must avoid overcrowded classes, one of the greatest ways for children to "slip through the cracks". I like the 5th & 6th grade center as an immediate help to all elementary schools. Rezoning is likely inevitable, but may be a lot further down the road with this addition. As tax payers, this money spent without a very clear breakdown and complete transparency is unacceptable. We pay one of the higher school taxes and have one of the, (maybe the best), voulonteer groups to be found. Happy to do both for our kids. Our schools are the very reason many families move here. That is something we can all be proud of having been a part of it. Quality education and educators...LH.

Please do not make White Rock a mega school. Develop a plan. Maybe 5th and 6th graders could go to North Lake or something.

I support a 5th/6th grade center. I also support redrawing the WRE lines south of Walnut Hill. I vehemently oppose anything that will send my child away from the elementary school that is two blocks away from our house.

I oppose a 1,000 student elementary school at WRE. An elementary school that size provides a lower quality education for the children enrolled. Specifically, we have ZERO after school enrichment programs (all other LH Elementary schools have programs such as Spanish, Chess Club, STEM classes, etc, and we have NOTHING) at WRE due to size. Traffic is outrageous and dangerous for children to cross streets due to cars parked on both sides of the street and lack of visibility. Special events like Talent Show are large have problems: extended family & grandparents have been cut from the invite list, kindergarten no longer allowed to perform.... At kindergarten Thanksgiving performance, just 5 kids out of 150 were given a speaking part (fact: there are less opportunities for the individual child when there are this many kids).... Standing room only for the audience. Sports teams and after school groups fight for a dry green space area on our limited, often-flooded green space outdoors. Classes attend specials combined with other classes, making a large student:teacher ratio (more kids=less room to run around in the gym! play instruments! use materials in art!) There are too many children funneling through our cafeteria: lunch times start very early and run late; parents must sit and eat lunch inside their car with their child on birthdays. I support a 5th/6th grade center, similar to that in Highland Park, that will benefit our entire community of Lake Highlands. I want to see a strategic plan that address growth at all schools in Lake Highlands, not just WRE.

Please reconsider adding on to WRE. I support a smaller school and already feel like my child misses out on certain opportunities (after school clubs, smaller special classes, short/early lunch times, etc) with WRE at its current size. I believe that letting LH be the leader in opening a successful 5th/6th grade center would allow our kids, teachers, and district to shine.

The reality is the area around WRE is in the midst of a tremendous influx of newer and younger families. Sending students out of the area is not a long term solution. Someone needs to step up and do what's right to provide the necessary schools within the area where student growth should warrants a long term solution, not a quick fix at the expense of the students and their families.

I am a WRE resident. I support redrawing attendance zones to combat overcrowding. Ultimately a new school should be built, and the district should already be scouting locations.

Really just wondering how many of these people that want a "small neighborhood school" live in a large home built in the last 10 years or have torn down a house that was too small to build a much bigger house. It seems adding homes to the neighborhood is ok, but enlarging the neighborhood school to accommodate those homes is not ok.

WRE is already above an ideal size

Need a long term fix not a band aid. Its been less than 2 years since the last wre add on that has already been outgrown.

WRE does not need to be expanded.

We want to keep our school small and neighborhood

For smaller neighborhood schools

I attended elementary school at WRE when it opened, and my son finished 6th grade in 2010, with around 550 students. Our family enjoyed weekly lunches in the cafeteria, after school activities and clubs, and everything a wonderful neighborhood school like WRE has to offer. Adding more classrooms to WRE or splitting schools up will disrupt the positive aspects of WRE's long-standing excellence, and the children will suffer. Please take the necessary actions to ensure quality is maintained by not adding any more classrooms and limiting growth.

This a very good long term plan for all of lake highlands

Please create a balanced plan for neighborhood schools in Lake Highlands. Residents deserve this. Shuffling children around and overbuilding WRE is not acceptable.

I believe in supporting our neighborhood schools. Both my children (now 35 and 31) attended WRE, LHJrHi and LHHS and received an excellent education.

I do not support adding on to WRE. Maybe a change in leadership is in order as well.

WRE will best serve the neighborhood by retaining it's 'neighborhood' size.
