We are fighting to stop Comptroller Jason Mumpower from taking financial control over Mason, TN! He is perpetuating racism and harm against this majority-Black town as they prepare for an economic boom from the new Ford Motor Company plant.

“Will Black People’s Land be Stolen in Tennessee — Again?,” a headline in the Tennessee Tribune, a statewide Black paper read last week.

This is not acceptable in 2022
Please sign this petition which aims to:

-TELL the Tennessee Comptroller Jason Mumpower NOT to take over Mason, TN!

“After the Tennessee town's Board of Alderman passed a resolution to keep their 153-year-old charter, the State Comptroller has begun a financial takeover, which will limit the authority of the town's elected officials and give the Comptroller’s Office full financial control over the town’s budget.
Vice-Mayor Virginia Rivers last week “likened the Comptroller’s efforts to take control from Mason’s duly elected officials as “akin to a hostile take-over,” coming just as Mason is poised to reap the benefits from billions of dollars in investments in the region from Ford.”-quoting journalist Anita Wadhwani, of the Tennessee Lookout https://tennesseelookout.com/2022/03/14/this-is-ak...

-ASK Ford Motor Company to keep their word to the City!

Ford promised to work hard to “be a good neighbor” and enrich and give back to the local communities!
As previously reported in the Tennesseean:
“We thank the State of Tennessee for its partnership and support as we work together to create 6,000 west Tennessee jobs and build Blue Oval City,” Ford North America Chief Operating Officer Lisa Drake said. “As we embark on this journey, Ford will be a good neighbor and work hard to enrich and give back to the communities we are joining. We look forward to working together to create this future.”
