Petition To REJECT The Proposed Building At 1431 Franklin Ave In The Black Business District
The African American community in Oakland has been seriously damaged by developers and public officials who are willing and sometimes eager to see African Americans disappear from the city. Black people were 47% of the population in 1980; now they make up only 20% of the population. In response to this crisis the 14th Street Corridor from Oak to the 880 Frontage Road was established as the Black Arts Movement and Business District by the City Council on Jan 7, 2016, in Resolution 85958.
TIDEWATER, an out-of-town developer, is proposing to build a high rise building at 1431 Franklin which will damage the Black Business District and the businesses in the area including the iconic business of Geoffrey's Inner Circle at 410 - 14 th Street.
We demand that the Planning Commission and the City Council reject this predatory building proposal and proceed with plans to fund and enhance the Black Business District

I never thought this would take off like it has but seeing everyone jump on board to save Geoffrey's gives me such a rush of adrenaline. It is honestly wild how people just get it because this city really needs to stop erasing our history and finally listen to what we need.

This establishment is a pillar in the black community. Alot of black business meetings and fun drives are entertained here
This Build is and Historically Build for Black People and Gefforey Inner Circle is a pillar of Entertainment for Our Community ( Such as wedding, Anniversary, celebration, feeding of those less fortunate and entertainer of the Bay Area….) stop the push out of Black Business and other minorities businesses who have business in that building.
Developers shouldn’t be allowed to regentrify the black community by destroying part of its history! They should be made to restore and develop the neighborhood’s and especially if they will impact the lives of the owners and the people who support them!
It is a disgrace to allow an out town developer come in and destroy what’s left of a historical Black business and cultural monument in the Black community. Shame on you to even consider such a proposal, especially during Black History Month no less! Its enough that West Oakland has been decimated by gentrification and now THIS!! Shame on you!!
Oakland is changing to much and losing its soul. Geoffrey's is a historic spot for us and they need to leave it alone. Keep building your condos somewhere else!

I would hope this petition to be successful. This venue serves our community and has for a very long time. It means a lot to both Me. Jeffrey and is, his clientele.
