In 2014, Daniel Letourneau (Volunteer/Coach/Geraldton Minor Hockey Alumni) wrote the Municipality of Greenstone asking to have a reduced fee (not free) for the weekend that generates business in all aspects of local economy and is a local fundraiser for the Geraldton Minor Hockey League. This request was DENIED by Council.
Due to this, the 2015 Easter Weekend Hockey Tournament had a LOSS of $110.00, even after one of the teams (Tuna Fish Sandwiches) donated their winnings back to the cause. Now that is what sportsmanship looks like!
It is time to collectively speak out and advise our Municipality to give back to a community is serves by being a team player and helping their children enjoy sports, recreation and a healthy lifestyle of hockey. If assisting with a fee reduction is the least they can do, they should!

The current momentum confirms that our community expects the municipality to prioritize local youth sports. I am now preparing a formal request for the council meeting agenda to ensure this feedback is officially recorded.

A weekend I look forward to every year. Unfortunately injury kept me out this year but always love to be there. Dan does an awesome job running this tournament and its a shame the town can't do a single thing to show its support. By losing this one weekend event the town will suffer, and they should be doing whatever they can to keep it around. As always, stay class my Sandwiches, hope to see you next Easter.
Every year this tournament is something that not just locals look forward to but even out of towners. I would hate to see if come to an end. Big thumbs up to Tuna Fish Sandwiches for donating back, especially considering that half the team consists of out of town players who are willing to come and play here and support LOCAL minor hockey! Great job by all!
totally agree - for Easter, for Moosecalac, for all tournaments. They aren't asking for free use, they asking for reduced fees!
I would hate to see this tournament end. Many come home to be with famiky and participate. With so few family events in our community, the end of this tournament would surely be a big loss!
A lot of hard work goes into a weekend like this. The arena still runs regardless of the tournament being held... it shouldn't cost much more to host the event. It shouldn't be an income generator for The Municipality.
A little help goes a long way. This tournament has been around for years and we need to keep it going

It's not about more teams or more advertising Vicky..you can't keep bleeding the same small businesses over and over....we are paying adult rates for fundraising for minor hockey. Our goal is to keep registration costs down so more kids can play, then we can rent more ice and in return the town would profit by renting more ice ..but that just makes too much sense eh..
