Plastic straws are unnecessary and banning them is a clear way to increase awareness of plastic waste in everyday life. Banning them is also a symbolic step that will benefit businesses by saving unnecessary costs while having local and environmental benefits.
Straws are pretty pointless; I'd love to see them go away!
Many places I support have already switched to paper.
With rare exceptions (bubble tea comes to mind) there is no need for straws of any kind! Excited to see Somerville taking steps towards waste minimization.

We deserve a city that is not strewn with plastic trash. Straws are among the worst kind of all-- an almost zero-value added single-use frivolity. IF we can get rid of styrofoam and plastic bags, we can get rid of straws too!
