The City of St Catharines is proposing to add 12 beach volleyball courts on Sunset Beach (municipal beach). The cost to taxpayers and city is zero as the Niagara Rapids Volleyball group will pay for the installation. Maintenance (which is very minor) would be covered by the costs of renting the courts to leagues and tournaments. Residents near the area are, for the most part, against the installation so we need some support in favour of the courts. We need more recreational areas in the city and at no cost to us, the taxpayer, it seems like a no-brainer. A group of us have been playing beach volleyball for over 20 years and we have noticed the popularity of the sport growing, and the areas to play are shrinking. This would be a great addition for the sport and for the beach. Please help us by signing this petition to help with the progression of the beach courts.

Reaching this point has been a slow climb and I am exhausted by the constant uphill battle. Seeing this level of support reminds me why we cannot let this chance for our community slip away.

I live in port wellar and have 2 growing boys that will love the beach volleyball at Sunset Beach. I have been playing competitive beach volleyball since I was 16. Please consider this project.

Great idea, wrong location. Imagine all the Toronto beach front taken up by volleyball leagues with no room for other people? In St. Catharines, we have approx 187m of beach. This group wants over half of that. Bad idea for the city at large.

Volleyball is a great idea; building 12 courts on the public beach is not. They can build this anywhere -- build it elsewhere and it's a great idea. There's one beach for multiple interests -- not just volleyball leagues from out of town

Niagara produces many great Volleyball players but due to the lack of facilities to train beach at a high level many leave and travel to Burlington or beyond to train. Sports have been proven to help youth stay focused and out of trouble. I am all for any facility that would promote healthy and active youth locally.

12 volleyball courts at NO cost to the city. Pretty well no impact on the environment ( 24 poles placed into the sand) and the added benefit of more commercial revenue helping local businesses, seems like a no brainer. I believe the beaches are public property so local residents don't actually own the beach.

More permanent courts are needed. Temporary courts create tripping hazards and can result in more injuries. Permanent courts will also encourage more people to use the beach and promote physical activity.

I think this would be a great thing to add to sunset beach!
