Dear Montgomery City Officials:

Most of the time, we love Montgomery’s beautiful trees, and we appreciate all that you do to promote them.

However, every fall, we watch enviously as our neighbors in Blue Ash, Madeira, Sharonville, Amberley, Deer Park, and other communities simply rake their leaves to the curb to be picked up by a leaf vacuum service provided by their cities ... while we are stuck lifting, cramming, stomping, grinding, and stuffing our leaves into bags and containers for pickup in Montgomery.

Providing leaf removal with a truck that vacuums leaves piled on the side of the street would improve the quality of life for Montgomery residents for the entire fall season. It could be subcontracted (as our park maintenance currently is), the disposal of the leaves would likely cost nothing (Blue Ash has agreements with local businesses to take their leaves for free), and it would reduce the risk of injury to workers lifting the heavy bags and cans of leaves (a potential liability for the city).

We urge you to begin providing street side leaf-vacuum pickup for Montgomery residents. Thank you!

Updates

November 10, 2014

I have been contacting city council members all week to demand they address our leaf pickup problem. Look up your representative today and send them a direct email asking why we are the only city in our area without a vacuum service.

The momentum behind this push for leaf vacuum service proves that we are all tired of the physical strain of bagging leaves each fall. Send an email to your city council representative today and ask why Montgomery residents are left behind while our neighbors get this basic service.

definitely in favor of streetside leaf vacuum service...what is taking so long to get it going.....In Wyoming, Ohio, they pick up the leaves, mulch them up, then in the spring upon request deliver the leaf mulch back to your driveway...they usually run out of mulch each year....great economical, environmentally friendly program

Wouldn't using the shredded leaves as mulch in our parks help offset the cost? I know Glendale uses them in their public mulched areas.

If you calculate out the amount of money we spend on bags, the labor cost the gas for the leaf blowers and lawn mowers, time consumption to fill the bags and haul the bags from the yard to the curb. Why does are contract end in November when the leaves are not done falling?

Montgomery is the only community that I'm aware of that does not offer leaf collection, for that reason my next home will not be in Montgomery.

Fall is glorious in Montgomery!! I'd rather enjoy it with family and friends than spend hours and hours filling 90 yard waste bags! Please make this happen!

This is especially frustrating for me as the opposite side of our street is Blue Ash. They don't rake their leaves and they blow in our yards. The ones without pick up!
