As a resident from Newton Road, where the new train station is proposed to be built I can not express enough how much of a stupid idea this is. The area along the road is green and beautiful and overall a lovely area.
From being a resident here since the age of 12, I have regularly used the train and it takes me 20/25 minutes to walk to Torre Train Station, which is infact a single road away, additionally, there are 7 bus stops along the road hosting a large selection of buses to lots of different places. As well as this, the parking along Newton Road is used for those working in the Edginswell Business Park and at the hospital, whilst the Herald Express article claims a new train station would benefit those commuting to these places, I think you will find a large amount of employees live in the surrounding area where a train will not remotely help them commute, infact removing the necessary parking will make their commute even harder- and is a 20 minute walk to Torre really the end of the world?
Additionally, Newton Road is already exceptionally busy during rush hour, adding a train station with cars coming in and out will only worsen this situation, creating traffic jams and excess noise.
Personally, I believe the proposed £4 million for this project is an absolute joke and the council should consider using that money on better, NECESSARY things such as renovating the tired town centre, or increasing the car parking spaces within the hospital seeing as there is nowhere to park and employees pay EXTORTIONATE rates to leave their cars there. I'm sure you yourself can instantly think of a better use for that money within the Torquay area, so PLEASE sign this petition to help my cause and STOP the proposed station from being built.

Ridiculous project. Newton road is already a nightmare to drive on during rush hour and this will just make it a total gridlock.
