To all concerned parents:
My name is Amaris Snyder and I am a mother whose two youngest children have Autism. My husband, Darrell, and I are very concerned about the policies in place in Indiana law that allows physical restraint to be used on any child attending Indiana schools. This procedure is known as Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), or therapeutic hold. CPI is a commonly used procedure for the containment of aggressive behavior in children. Although often effective, the intervention has inherent physical and emotional safety risks, even cases where the use of CPI results in childrenâ
The stories shared in the comments prove this is a widespread problem that our schools continue to ignore. We are currently preparing a formal packet of these accounts to present to the school board. Post the link to this petition on your Facebook page and text three friends who need to know about the dangers of these restraint policies.

Teachers need actual training for kids with special needs instead of just grabbing them. Total failure of the system.

RIDICULOUS. Schools should be safe places for every single kid not places where they get traumatized by staff.

My son came home with bruises after one of these holds and school just shrugged it off. This has to end now Indiana.

Keep our kids safe. There are better ways to handle behaviors than physical restraint. My heart breaks for these families.
