Hello everyone, I am not sure how many of you are aware of the issue in some of our public school\'s, however, I am going to briefly explain and ask for you\'re help. If this is not an appropriate place for this I apologize for using the groups space. Does everyone know how their children or grandchildren are being disciplined in our schools. Let me just start by saying on December 8th, 2006 I found out exactly how my 4 year old son was being punished. I walked into his pre-k classroom to realize he was standing in front of the room with a teachers aide sitting next to him while he was standing inside of a "Body Sox". If some of you don\'t know what a body sox is, it is a stretchy material that is supposed to be used mainly with children with autism or learning disabilities, which my son has neither of those. The company states it is used to help children discover their 3- dimensional space. However, when I noticed he was crying the teacher told me he had a little bit of a bouncy day. So instead of sending him to time out or to the principals office she had my son stand in the front of the classroom during dismissal time for other parent to see. I feel this was used in an unappropiate manner and I am now doing what I can to have this removed from schools. However, I need your help. I need to gather petitions from parents that agree teachers should not be using this in classrooms. If you need to read more about the situation before you give your opinion I completely understand and you can read all the articles on Baynews9.com. You just search the stories using the keyword body sox, and search by dates, if you want to look at the first story and so forth search body sox stories in the year 2006, 120 days old. Please help me make the classroom a better place for students. If you agree and would like to sign please email this back to [email protected] with your name, city and state. Then please tell as many people as possible about this petition. The intended use of this petition is show Pinellas County School Board that I am not the only parent that feels this way, however, If they are unwilling to listen to not only my thoughts, but, the thoughts of many other parents I plan on taking this as far as I need to.Please help me make our public schools safer. Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you all in advance for your help. -Jennifer Holt

I have been thinking so much about how these things are being used for punishment lately and it just keeps me up at night wondering how many other kids are currently trapped inside that stretchy fabric right now. Some of you have sent messages sharing similar stories about your own children and it honestly makes me want to scream but it also helps to know I am not the only one seeing this happen. I am trying to get a meeting with the district office soon because they need to explain why this is even allowed to happen to any child let alone one without any special needs.

Seeing all these people agree that classrooms should be safe environments for every child has left me absolutely reeling because I truly thought I was fighting this fight entirely by myself. It is honestly bizarre to look at my screen and realize how many folks feel as strongly as I do about keeping these things out of schools where they clearly do not belong.

What the heck? That is not how you teach a 4 year old. That teacher needs to be gone immediately.

My son has sensory issues and uses these for therapy. Using them to shame kids is disgusting! Keep them in the resource room ONLY.

UNACCEPTABLE. I would be furious if I walked in and saw my child like that. Shame on them.

This is completely wrong. Using specialized equipment as a punishment is just plain humiliation. Feel so bad for your little boy.

Ridiculous. Schools are for learning not for public shaming for being a kid.
