PETITION TO BRISBANE CITY COUNCIL

Petition background summary: Concerned Citizens of Brisbane CA request a City Council resolution to support efforts to protect us all from jet aircraft noise which has been documented to have increased in both frequency and severity since 2010, and is expected to get worse.

Action petitioned for: We the undersigned residents of Brisbane request that our City Council take a formal position by resolution on minimizing the negative environmental impacts of jet noise on us by:

A) Protect all Brisbane residents equally - favoring none.

B) Require fact based scientific studies to support all proposed changes.

C) Replace/Add noise monitors to collect data for comparison with prior year's samples.

D) Prohibit any Brisbane official or staff from binding the City to any unenforceable FAA agreement.

Updates

August 26, 2016

I have been reviewing the recent comments submitted by residents who are experiencing increased disruptions from overhead air traffic. These accounts confirm that our collective concern is grounded in a persistent and measurable decline in local quality of life.

While I don't expect not to ever hear airplane noise due to our proximity to the SFO, when we moved to Brisbane back in 1990, part of the reason we chose Brisbane was that the airlines could not fly directly over Brisbane (unless for a safety reason), as opposed to other cities close to where we work (SSF). There's no reason airplanes need to fly over Brisbane as part of their standard route.

Aircraft noise at all hours impacts not only my waking hours but also my sleep. I now often wake around 1am to hear a plane flying low over my home. One Saturday evening I counted noise disturbance of more than 20 aircraft in a period of less than 3 hours.

Pilots should not take a shortcut across Brisbane but instead go higher over the bay before turning west. The elevation threshold should be substantially raised by the FAA for planes wanting to turn west over Brisbane.

We invested several millions to buy our home for the peace and tranquility offered by the City of Brisbane. With the noise levels increasing it has become very difficult to enjoy a peaceful living.

If SFO and the FAA don't agree to a timetable for relief Brisbane should vocally consider joining the South Peninsula's legal action. The exponential rise in noise complaints since the NextGen implementation is well documented and undeniable.

Please help stop the late night / early morning buzzovers... it's so frustrating to have kids woken up and the whole family's sleep wrecked for the night. We need peaceful sleep! Thank you, Jessica & 3 girls

The flights and noise go well into the night and are very loud and disrupt my sleep. Please resrtict the flights over Brisbane between the hours of 10pm and 7am
