Residents' Petition to City Council District 6 To Limit Aircraft Noise and Pollution Generated by Van Nuys Airport
- Numerous flight schools now operate from Van Nuys Airport. Please eliminate all practice take offs and landings (called touch and go's) from Van Nuys Airport.
- Please make sure that only Stage 3, Stage 4 or above aircraft operate at Van Nuys Airport, as per FAA regulations.
- Shorten Van Nuys Airport Runways, eliminating the largest jet aircraft.
- Raise the traffic pattern at least 200 feet.
- Require departing aircraft to climb an additional 2-300 feet on their takeoff leg before making any turns.
- As soon as the new quieter aircraft propellers (https://newatlas.com/aircraft/toroidal-quiet-propellers/) are approved for aircraft, require their use for all propeller aircraft operating in and out of Van Nuys Airport.
We love our neighborhoods.
Van Nuys and its surrounding neighborhoods were established years before Van Nuys Airport was founded.
Van Nuys Airport is now the busiest general aviation airport in the world! We can no longer comfortably relax in our own backyards. It is completely inappropriate to continue to develop it into a major airport in the middle of our densely populated residential neighborhoods, where tens of thousands of people live, work, and recreate.
Van Nuys Airport has become an increasingly noisy and inconsiderate neighbor, especially since the introduction of jet aircraft in the 1990's. Quiet and considerate operations appropriate to our residential quality of life must be put in place and enforced.
Santa Monica Airport is scheduled to close. We do not want to have its aircraft, and the resulting additional air traffic, at Van Nuys Airport.

We have invested in these homes which now have rattling windows and unreasonable jet sounds every twenty minutes. Surely it’s not legal to crash our home values like this.
It’s sooooo unnerving. Make it stop.
It’s an outrage that we have to even point this out and it’s level of impacting our quality of life.

More consideration needs to be for property owners, renters, and all residents and their peaceful quiet enjoyment of their living space. It's also a matter of noise pollution and mental health. There should be a better plan for this airport, even relocating it. An airport should not be literally in the middle of residential area. Too many unhealthy factors.
The jets are too large and very noisy. Also - no respect for night time quiet hours. get back to general aviation small planes only!!

I live nearby Van Nuys Airport, and over the years the noise has become worse and worse. We also live near the Burbank approach path parallel to Vanowen and I’ve never been bothered by the noise of commercial aircraft; it’s always been the loud private general aviation aircraft. Please consider this petition to help residents who live near VNY.
