Canada has been a major player in the exporting of horse meat to Europe and Japan. It is obvious that Canadian slaughter houses are trying to take advantage of the demand for horse meat in those countries by exporting horse meat which is legal in Canada. Another terrible thing that is happening to thousands of horses in North America. A product called Premarin developed by Wyeth, produces a hormone replacement for women. The main ingredient is a pregnant mare\'s (female horse) urine. The mares are constantly pregnant and stall bound in stalls that have no room for them move or to lay down. Attached to a catheter bag to collect their urine for processing, the mares are withheld water most of the day to concentrate the urine to lower processing costs. Once born, the foals are then sent to auction or straight to slaughter (PMU foals are considered byproducts) along with warn mares and stallions, all packed in a truck together. Wyeth is not the only source of horse abuse but is the most common in Canada.
