Stop the Proposed Lake Lucerne Anti-Chicken Ban

I will also work to repeal the ban if it passes. Chickens are welcome here in my world.

The amendment is overly vague and opens the Lake/residents up to a number of fights down the road. Are rabbits for 4H livestock? What is a nuisance animal and does one report of a barking dog mean a removal letter from the Board? I am not strongly for or against the chickens, but think it's worth discussing as a community before any amendments or votes are considered. I don't know if you still have the rooster, but having been both a city and a country girl, think our houses are too close together for roosters. They also tend to be what most people find objectionable about backyard chickens.

Seeing the number of people who would like to further this discussion, maybe a task force would be an appropriate move prior to voting on this amendment. For those of us who don't know the pros and cons, it would be nice to have an equal number or supporters and non-supporters on the task force. Just a suggestion.

I get that everyone loves chickens but it seems like the bigger issue here is the lack of justification for the proposed deed restriction. Seems like you're willing to be flexible but it's tough to address a problem without knowing what you're addressing. I'm happy to sign the petition but I think you really need people to either show up at the meeting or to sign their proxy cards over to you for the purpose of voting down the proposal.

I like the sounds of the chickens. Learning about animals has been lost and/or wants to be removed from our children's knowledge. We need more open discussion between people than closed minds. Just look at the our congress, our political leaders, and the general public.

Yes, please keep your chickens! Lake Lucerne is a "family community" not a "housing community". These chickens and rooster live uniquely and humanely in beauty with sunshine and grass and with love as pets. Thus they produce the healthiest of eggs. The Fox family know what healthy people should be doing to keep chickens away from farm factories. Read the Times (July 7, 2016) "Emma's Fresh Eggs" as she maintains chickens as pets and has begun this as a college major and career after graduating from Kenston. I sometimes hear the rooster when on the causeway or on the beach. I love to hear him!!!

I agree, this is a slipperly slope. Whats next... dogs, because they bark too much. I dont see how LL can justify restricting our freedoms.

Writing restrictive laws and deeds will only cause more problems at a later date. This is a slippery slope with animal restrictions. What's next? Restricting who is allowed to buy a home in the lake, housing colors, number of children, yard signs?

We live across the lake and don't mind the rooster at all. Such problems we have!
