A decision may be made to close The Derby Arms, Great Urswick. We believe the brewery may not want to offer anyone the opportunity to continue to run it as a pub. As a community, we would ask that our pub is kept open by offering it to another landlord or offer the pub for sale to any interested party. This is community asset and the heartbeat of our village.
WE HIT 100 SIGNATURES FOR THE DERBY ARMS!! THIS IS A MASSIVE STEP FORWARD FOR OUR VILLAGE HUB AND PROVES THAT THE HEARTBEAT OF GREAT URSWICK IS STRONG!! LETS KEEP THIS MOMENTUM BURNING BRIGHT!!!

We live in London and every time we come up to the area to visit family we stay at the Derby Arms. It is certainly the hub of the village, and has a much better atmosphere and openness to “non locals” than the General Burgoyne

Lovely pub and community hub - also big part of the local road cycling scene. Please, Robinsons, work harder to find a new tenant — or perhaps the community could fundraise and buy you out?

We’ve been staying at the Derby for years now and I can’t imagine Great Urswick without the Derby.
The brewery need to give try to find a new licensee before shutting it for good and turning it into something like flats.
Once a pub is gone it’s gone forever and part of the village dies with it.

Why haven’t Robinson’s asked the villagers what they feel about losing their local.. The Derby has been the meeting place in the village for ever, for many generations
How thoughtless that they just take it away without any discussion with the village.

This would be such a shame.
When I was the landlord of the Burgoyne the two pubs used to compliment each other and there was certainly enough business to warrant both pubs.

The Derby is an important part of our community and provides the only bed and breakfast accommodation in the village. It could offer so much more too, small shop, afternoon teas, continue the baking competitions which provides much needed funds for the playground but encourages locals to join in village activities.

Apologies if this is something that is being considered / done.
The Campaign for Real Ale ( CAMRA ) are able to provide first hand advice about the steps / how to save a pub.
Details can be found on their website.
The first step is to get the pub listed as an “ Asset of Communty Value - ACV “
With the local council.
This allows breathing space and stops the brewery from selling the pub for housing etc whilst the AVC is in place.
