Hi Everyone!

So after witnessing the amazing work done by the locals to brighten up the Fairy Path, today I found out that a certain councillor has put forward a request to rename the path after HRH Prince Phillip.

Now I have absolutely nothing against the Royal family, I love them BUT to rename the path after the Prince who has nothing to do with it or has ever used it, I personally think is out of order. It has been known as the Fairy Path for generations, families across Maryport and the local area have used it for their walks to the beach, we have admired the magic of it for years and always taught little children to be quiet for the fairies or look out for them.

Lets keep the name as it always has been!

If Maryport is to commemorate HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, then renaming The Fairy Path is a ludicrous idea. Given the town’s naval tradition, a better memorial would be to support the next generation of sailors at Maryport’ Solway Sea Cadet Unit.

I used to live corner market square spent my childhood on brows and walked fairy path, Fairy path makes it magical to all the children think the name should defiantly remain can't wait to walk our grandchildren on the path

The name is lovely I’ve lost count how many families have said there children are excited to walk “the fairy path”. Plenty of paths in Maryport that could carry the sign of Prince Phillip.

Second I have respect for the royals but don't feel this is the correct way to show it, we would just be loosing another part of our heritage. Should maryport people not have been consulted before this was put forward?

I grew up playing, hiding, and making memories on this fairy path. It has always been and always will be know as the fairy path. Local people have gone out of their way, spent their own time and money to carry on theses memories for the next generation it will be a great shame to change it

Why change the name of this magical path that our town loves so much. Create a new trail or path to be named after the Duke or a garden along the prom or develop the old roller skatink rink. Shows how out of touch with local feeling our councillors are.

It is a beautiful Fairy Path and it must remain so.
