It's been two years since parents were bombarded by split classes. My child attends a school that has only 2 straight grade classes. 12 out of 14 are now split including two K-1 splits.

We understand that in some situations, split classes are necessary to meet the revised language introduced Sept 2017 and to meet the requirements of the updated classroom size and composition restrictions. We understand this restriction helps teachers to provide a better learning environment for our children. What we don't understand is why Kindergarten is included in this?

Kindergarten is a play-based year and the curriculum for grade 1 is very different. Teachers agree. The Vancouver School Board recognizes this and does not allow Kindergarten to be split. We would like the North Vancouver School Board to follow suit and not split Kindergarten.
