I am a resident of Pima County and I urge the Pima County Board of Supervisors to stop the installation of the proposed statue at the intersection of Bowes RD and Snyder RD. The approved public art component of the Sabino High School Bikeway Project has no relation to the existing character of the community. The design of this statue is complete out of place and is a distraction from the natural surroundings we have chosen to live in. The installation of this piece will be a further eyesore along with the pre-existing sign pollution to the north of the high school. Further, I have no doubt that this piece will also be a graffiti magnet along with being a windblown trash collector. We have seen that there is no contingency included in the grant application providing for the maintenance and upkeep of the approved piece. This statue was selected by a committee made up of four individuals with only one of whom being a community member. The grant application stated that public meetings would be held for the residents to give input to the design of the project. The community was not given input to this project as we were promised and are requesting that the project be halted and the uninstalled base to be immediately removed for installation at a more appropriate site.

After living on Vallarta Drive for 38 years I have seen a lot of change but this IS RIDICULUS. A Gila Monster, road runner or something that represents our beautiful desert would be appropriate. Take it down town or on Grant where pedestrains are struck by cars every day. I am unaware of any pedestrian being hit on Bowes road!
Please consider this "pop art" piece to be installed by McDonald park, where it would look great! Our quaint, rural neighborhood is not happy about it's installation on the corner. Please put Public art in public space!
This statue does not complement our natural desert area. Please do not allow this art to ruin our beautiful area. Local kids routinely graffiti area signs, including the stop sign at this corner. I know this art would be a prime target. Please listen to our neighborhood and put this statue in a more appropriate setting.
Im all for art, BUT we tax payers do not pay taxes for DOT to use for art...we need our roads, especially up here in Snyder/Harrison area, fixed...they are pathetic. Fix the roads first so that kids can actually ride bikes without these hazardous conditions then let's talk about art!!!
Inappropriate location (distraction on a narrow and poorly shouldered section of Snyder) and presents a harsh, glaring neon juxtaposition on a very natural, raw backdrop. While perhaps ideal for a more urban streetscape, Bowes and Snyder is not an acceptable "home."
A committee of four doesn't offer a broad enough cross section of viewpoints whether it be related to art, or any other project the area residents will be obliged to view each time they pass by. In this instance, the artists rendering of this particular scheme is downright ugly, conveys no apparent message, nor does it have any meaning. I personally wish not to view the hideous looking thing.
Why haven't we heard about this? The design is hardly appropriate for the area, besides being just plain ugly.

While I appreciate and support public art this site and statue make absolutely no sense. And where was the public input? Please stop this installation and give the residents a say in what we are paying for and where it will be placed.
