Tonight the Village of West Dundee Board voted to create a chicane on Lincoln Ave. at Geneva St. in West Dundee. A chicane is a road barrier that creates a narrowing and curve in the roadway to reduce speed. We do not want a chicane in our neighborhood for the following reasons: 1.) It is unattractive and more relevant for larger metropolitan areas, 2.) It inhibits snow removal since plows are unable to fit into the narrowed area created by the chicane, 3.) It is a road hazard and can cause accidents, and 4.) It is unnecessary and a waste of taxpayer funds since traffic issues have already been improved through additional stop signs, road improvements, and significant decline in traffic due to pandemic work-from-home conditions. This petition is meant to stop the installation of a chicane in West Dundee, and signatures will be delivered to City Manager and Village Board.

I’m a tax paying resident. Use this road every day (walking the river walk and driving down Lincoln.). Not needed. No traffic. Period. They just put a stop sign at that location, which is useless.

We're all for pedestrian safety, but these Chicanes are: 1. unnecessary 2. unsightly 3. not a good use of our taxpayer dollars

I agree that another solution should be considered. I think this might cause more accidents then prevent and then it could cost the village A LOT more in law suit. (Why wouldn't a stop sign work? Speed bumps? More police giving tickets?

This is completely unnecessary. I live a block away. The stop sign is more than enough. If there is a resident there that feels that unsafe maybe they should move somewhere more rural. I grew up in a Chicago and the amount of traffic here doesn’t come close to warranting this. I also agree that it would prohibit snow plows, garbage trucks and leaf collection trucks from doing their jobs. It’s also a terrible eye sore and would likely cause more confusion with auto and pedestrian traffic there. Not to mention heritage fest. Wouldn’t that hinder access for the crafters to set up? This isn’t a well thought out idea and most likely proposed for a couple a residents who are paranoid about living there.

Less parking in this area would be not smart. We have so many community events at Gaffleman park it seems unwise to inhibit vendor set up and parking

Speed humps or speed cameras might be something to consider ! They have that in the city of Chicago . Chicago City plows have no problem going over the humps .

Who remembers this waste of taxpayer money "chicane"? Last night incumbent West Dundee Board members bragged about this as an accomplishment. Vote them out!! They do not listen to the will of the voters!!
