Proposed National Forest Land Swap for Rec Park Draws Pushback from Wakulla Neighbors: Wakulla County is advancing a plan to swap county land(and possibly
cash) near Lawhon Mill Rd. in Sopchoppy for 150+ acres of Apalachicola
National Forest east of Revadee Spears Rd. (Crawfordville) to build a
new recreation complex. Neighbors say the move would push heavy
traffic through residential streets and clear forest in a sensitive
springs/karst area—when non-Forest sites could be pursued.
County Administrator David Edwards confirmed the swap concept and
noted the County has “been working this deal… probably back to 2013,”
adding the Forest Service wants the County’s tract for prescribed
burning while the County seeks the Revadee Spears site for access and
location. He wrote that once a potential deal is close, he will brief
the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).

We live on Revadee Spears Road…this is so wrong, we have no infrastructure to support the housing and businesses that are here and/or planning to move here. Strong Opposition to this plan.
Leave the forest alone. It may LOOK just like forest, but some plant varieties can be found NOwhere else! Recreation can be elsewhere. NO golf. NO pickle ball. NO TRADE.
Keep our public lands public! As reported at the recent County Commission meeting the county already has plenty of existing land to expand recreational facilities. This is just another boondoggle.
As a citizen who has 2 children that play at the rec park, I don't agree with bulldozing any of our national forest for anything. LEAVE OUR FOREST ALONE. Upgrade the Medart rec park where it is.
The forest needs to stay as is. The bears are being forced out of the forest and into our home sites. The wildlife in the area is robust and the ecosystem the forest provides is necessary. Revedee Spears road, Three sisters, and Mose Ware are heavily trafficked as it sits now.
I'm from south florida, but damn ... this is stupid.
Don't nibble away at our national forest. When it's gone, it's gone forever. When you kill those plants and animals, we lose a treasure that belongs to all of us. Please don't do this.

The school board already owns enough properties to do the second rec park. The county would just need to lease it. No different than what the city of Tallahassee and Leon County do with Tom Brown.
