I spent the morning reading through the stories you all have shared about dogs left chained in the heat. It is heartbreaking to see how many people are watching this cruelty unfold in their own neighborhoods without any way to stop it.

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that I am far from alone in my heartbreak over these animals suffering on chains. It feels like we are finally turning a corner toward a future where our dogs are treated with actual kindness.

If tethering is stopped in SC there will be more dog deaths by dogs dying in hot dog boxes during dog sport related events.

I have a dog who dogs, chews up cables, climbs a 6ft kennel and jumps a 4ft fence where he has an acre to run. I'm forced to keep him on a chain, but he runs and jumps and loves his life on a chain. I scrub water buckets every couple of days and he has an awesome igloo dog house. He even gets a pool in the summer. Taking away tying a dog out is not fair to responsible dog owners.

There is evidence that dogs on proper chain set ups are guaranteed more space. Which makes for a happy dog. I own several dogs that do not do well in kennel set ups. These dogs are athletes, healthy working dogs with jobs.

Tethering, if done properly, is NOT harmful. I DO NOT support anti-tethering laws or the people initiating or backing them. If set up properly a tether set-up gives the animal twice as much area and space as any kennel. Tethering also keeps an animal from jumping or scaling a fence as some animals can scale even the tallest fence. Vote against any tethering laws!

We have laws in place now, that need to be enforced. Why do people think that by adding more laws will automatically fix the issue. People who disobey laws will continue to disobey laws even when and if new ones are added.

Tethering is only a tool to confine an animal. Neglect can occur anywhere. On a tether or in a pen.
