Dogs (like people) are social animals, yet more than 200,000 dogs live empty lives chained or tethered outdoors. This is currently happening in the Town of Wake Forest. Tied-up outside, dogs become lonely, bored, and anxious, and they can develop aggressive behaviors.

Dog tethering is not just an animal cruelty concern, but is also a public safety and property value concern.

Studies show that dogs are made aggressive & territorial by chaining them, making them far more likely to attack if they break loose. According to the American Humane Association chained dogs are 2.8 times more likely to bite and approximately 25% of fatal dog attacks were from chained dogs.

Our community leaders have sworn to protect Citizens. By confronting and resolving this issue of dog containment in a humane and acceptable way that also protects the animals.

Your signature matters and can make a difference! Please support this petition to BAN TETHERING AND CHAINING OF DOGS IN THE TOWN OF WAKE FOREST!

An ordinance currently exists in Rolesville and Raleigh to ban chained dogs, but not Wake Forest. This has been verified.

Please, in order for this to be considered as valid, we are asking only residents of the Town of Wake Forest sign this petition. Thank you for your support!

The Town of Wake Forest officials are still ignoring the blatant cruelty happening in our own backyards. Silence from the town council just proves they do not care about the safety of our neighbors or the welfare of these dogs. I am continuing to demand answers until they finally decide to act.

Let's also impose fines for animals left outdoors when temps are below freezing, as other states do.

Too many lonely dogs starved for attention for mental health and safety reasons both for dog but also for safety of public that chaining 24/7 can cause aggression.

In a town up and coming like Wake Forest, how crazy that residents have to ride by houses and see dogs chained while AC cannot do anything because of the "laws". It costs NOTHING to implement laws to better the welfare of animals. DO SOMETHING! They have no voice and cant escape the miserable life they have been dealt, especially in the winter and summer months of extreme temps

Dogs should never be tied for more than an hour or so. Never chained instead of being allowed in the house or at least their own house and that should not be full time either! Dogs are COMPANION ANIMALS, They are miserable if left all alone.

Living here in Wake Forest it breaks my heart seeing these poor dogs stuck on chains in this heat. They deserve better than to just be backyard ornaments!
