not fair that last years juniors didn't have to do the summer reading on top of ap work and we do. and some kids are taking as many as three ap classes next year. what's the point of summer then, just keep me in school.

Like Byrnes said, "You don't learn to love reading by being forced to do summer reading, that's like saying you learn to love the country because you pay taxes", not to mention that Shakespeare, Dickens, Tolstoy, and Poe were never assigned "summer reading". Also... Administrator logic: "We have a wonderful English department, but 180 days was not enough time so.....MORE ASSIGNMENTS!"

The school board should really take into consideration the mental health of its students. School stresses us out enough which is why we have summer vacation. Making us do even more school work over our break causes us to stress when we should be relaxing.

Why do we do summer reading if we aren't going to talk about the book all year long? The conversation about the book will only last 1 day. Also, we have plans during the summer that would be interrupted by summer reading.

I don't think it would be as bad if they gave more options. Different people like reading different styles of books, so I do not believe it is fair to give us only 2 choices. Don't like nonfiction? Read the fiction book about dogs. Don't like that book? Too bad. You're out of options.

AP work and summer reading is too much to handle during one summer. Many schools around us don't do summer reading anymore - so it's time for TMHS to stop too.
