Setting up their street stall at 4.30am to sell fresh seafood has been a 52-year ritual for the Vlatkovich family.

But it may not continue in business much longer. Peter Vlatkovich, 69, is considering whether to carry on following a shock directive from Auckland Council to move from the council-owned carpark, which is separated from the main street by a footpath and grass verge.

He was told the carpark spaces used by their refrigerated truck and its awning were needed for shops. However he has the support of the surrounding business'.

The alternative was a spot in a side street, McIntyre Rd. This, he considers, is not as safe as being close to bakeries and a supermarket, where staff work similar early hours.

Sign this petition to stop the council from making this ridiculous changes that will cripple this small business owner.

Council, I am an Aucklander. Stop petty interference like this and let people get on with their lives without bureaucratic high handed nonsense. At this stage in your work I'd have to say the super city is turning into a super nightmare because local voices are ignored by the high flying self promoting skyscraper dwelling elite.

Auckland Council through ATEED supports open markets and has a three page website (with the Mayor) showing us where to find people like Peter This decision needs to be redacted. The benefit of this proposal has not been explained and until it has, the decision must be placed on hold.

What Sunday lunch was complete without a visit down to Peters to pick up our seafood for that lunch!! just as the other shop owners have said -they look out for each other! if there are no complaints from patrons then i do not see their issue. as the saying goes....what aint broke..

I have been visiting Peter's stall from a very young age. I am now in my late twenties. The stall has been in its current spot for 33 years and it is still popular. Peter's a great man, and an Auckland icon. Let him stay, concentrate on more pressing issues Auckland Council.

Peter is providing a popular service to the community, and his presence in the carpark from 4am until 7.30am or 8am at weekends is inconveniencing no one. The Auckland Council should leave him alone.
