In recent years, the year-round population of Montauk has increased to the point where the right to hunt in certain populated areas needs to be re-examined by our Town Board. More specifically, continued hunting on Fort Pond has become a danger to those who live near its shoreline, as well as to those who use it recreationally. Additionally, the discharge of firearms in the area close to the LIPA substation creates the potential for an ecological disaster.
WHEREFORE, we, the undersigned residents of the Town of East Hampton, do hereby petition the Town Board to enact whatever laws, rules or regulations it deems appropriate to halt the use of firearms in the area of Fort Pond.

Too many people live right there now. My kids play near the water and i dont want to worry about stray bullets. Shut it down.
