STOP HIGHWAY 413
Environmental Impact
If highway 413 is built, it will add 17 million tonnes of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by 2050. That is 1.7 billion dollars worth of damage! Highway 413 is 53 kilometres long and will pave through 400 acres of the greenbelt and over 2,000 acres of Class 1 and Class 2 farmland which is among Ontario's most productive farmland. Class 1 farmland is very important for the growth of crops as you can plant nearly anything on it. Class 2 farmland holds water in the soil very well so it is also very important.
Health Impact
If Highway 413 is built, people that live in the area will breathe in dirtier air which could cause asthma, lung cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Hospitals are already overwhelmed and building the highway will make it worse.
Financial Impact
Highway 413 is said to save drivers over 30 minutes on commuting. That is not true, because according to an expert panel, Highway 413 will only save commuters 30-60 seconds on a drive. That is 8.2 billion of your tax dollars wasted on saving 30-60 seconds of your commute. Plus the movement from one side of the highway to the other will only take 25 minutes, so the Ford government is lying.
Animals that will be put at risk
Some animals that might be put at risk are Red-headed Woodpecker, Redside Dace, Rapids Clubtail, Eastern Ribbonsnake, Bank Swallow, Western Chorus Frog, Eastern Musk Turtle, Chimney Swift and the butternut tree.
Highway 413 will cause so many problems and destroy the environment. That is why you should sign this petition and help stop highway 413.
