Re: EBR Registration No. 011-2864
WHEREAS just north of the Greater Toronto Area in Melancthon Township, the US-financed Highland Companies has proposed to dig the second largest quarry in North America, encompassing approximately 2400 acres in size;
WHEREAS dubbed, the Mega Quarry, it will if approved, cause immediate harm to natural habitats, eradicate prime farmland and may adversely affect the drinking water for over a million Ontarians;
WHEREAS when operating, thousands of haulage trucks each week will degrade roads and increase pollution across the Province, while our future generations will be left to clean up the destruction we have permitted;
WHEREAS we, the undersigned, stand up against this sell-out of our most important natural resources;
NOW THEREFORE by this petition, we respectfully request the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to refuse to approve the application by the Highland Companies to establish this quarry.
(By signing below you oppose the approval of the Melancthon lands acquired by the Highland Companies for aggregate extraction. Make your children proud of you by defending their future. Stop the Mega Quarry! )

Seeing five thousand names on this list brings me back to the fields in Melancthon where we first realized what was at stake for our water. I never thought so many people would join me in protecting this land for our children.

Seeing one thousand signatures on this petition is overwhelming because it proves I am not the only one fighting to save our farmland from the Highland Companies. Walking through these fields makes me realize how much we have to lose and having you beside me gives me real hope.

This is our food source! You cant replace prime farmland once its gone. Keep the quarry out of Melancthon.
My family has farmed this area for generations. Dont let some corporation destroy it all for a hole in the ground.
Protect the land for our grandkids. Greed is ruining everything.
No mega quarry. Find somewhere else.
Ridiculous. We dont need thousands of trucks tearing up our roads every single day.

The water supply is way more important than gravel. Think about the people living here not just the profits!!!
