Real Recycling Transparency
Michiganders have committed to recycling their waste and sending less garbage to landfills.
We've made progress on these issues but more work must be done.
We the undersigned will hold all of our elected officials accountable, from the Governor, Mayor, City Councilmembers, County Commissioners, State Representative, State Senator, U.S. Congressional members to request transparency and hold our recycling haulers, Green For Life Environmental, accountable to ensure our recycling programs is being run efficiently:
-Green For Life Environmental is properly transporting our recyclables to a recycling sorting facility.
-Provide transparency in how Green For Life Environmental separates contaminated from non-contaminated recyclables.
-Report the contamination rates coming from each community.

I was just out looking at the bins today and thinking about how little we actually know about where those trucks go once they leave the curb. It is honestly exhausting to keep pushing for answers when the companies just stay silent but reading your stories helps me remember why this matters so much. There is a lot going on behind the scenes with local contacts right now so please stay tuned because we are definitely not stopping anytime soon.

I checked the notification feed earlier and just sat there staring at the screen because I really did not think this many people cared about the trucks and the sorting centers as much as I do. It feels like the momentum is actually building now and that realization is honestly a lot to process while I am sitting here drinking cold coffee and trying to figure out the next step with the city council. Watching the feedback pile up makes me feel like we might actually get someone to listen to us about these hauling contracts finally.

I take recycling very seriously.. I have been doing it since the 1970’s where we had to find places to take paper. Having a company like GFL pick it up is a convenience but if it’s going to the landfill that’s not right. I want to trust that the company is doing its job properly.
We use their site in Novi, MI. It's sad to hear they may be dumping the recycling instead.
Last week I had to run out and stop the trash guy from throwing my recycling bin, it's contents and my bound paper/cardboard into the garbage truck. The truck driver got out and fished out my recycling bin after I yelled at them. Why am I going to the trouble of washing out and sorting my recycling if your just gonna chuck it in the landfill? Or do I have to watch each pickup to make sure you do your job?
GFL as a whole company is an absolute bad joke and this doesn't surprise me one bit but the pick up in my neighborhood is so bad some weeks they don't pick up Yard Waste or Recycling they have repeatedly broke both of our cans and it doesn't stop there when we called the company and told them we were going to use another hauler the woman on the phone laughed at me and told me no other hauler would touch our Trash and Recycling because they had the contract for our specific area long story short I wish I had any other service in the world besides GFL I hope they go bankrupt.
I have always thought it should be more transparent, with more readily available data. If so, would be willing to pay more to ensure success.
Please follow through on your commitment GFL.
The only reason Gfl is even in michigan is so they can bring Canadian waste to our state. They were running out of options that their government was requiring too much of them. So they bring the Canadian garbage here so as to not mess up their country. GFL is shady as all get out.

For recycling to work its going to take a lot more work from us as a community to seperate our recyclables by material at home. We as Michiganders need state wide education in our schools and media on how recycling really works after it leaves our homes. But honesty from our recycling company comes first, so we are able to work together. Lies don't make the planet greener.
