We are destroying our planet one bottle at a time and we need to make a change. We need to change our returnable container laws to jump start the population into returning and recycling. Right now our current bottle deposit law in Michigan states that only “beverage containers” require a deposit and may be redeemed for the $.10 deposit. The law states under MCL Section 445.571(b) that a beverage means a “soft drink, soda water, carbonated natural or mineral water, or other nonalcoholic carbonated drink; beer, ale, or other malt drink of whatever alcoholic content; or a mixed wine drink or a mixed spirit drink.” I would like to see that law changed (for all states in general, but starting with Michigan), that we need to add deposits to all containers used for holding liquid beverages of any kind be treated the same way and have deposits added to them. Something needs to be done to hold people accountable for these containers, this way we can lessen the amount of waste that ends up in the landfills, reduce the amount of trash that is littered among our streets, and stop negatively impacting our environment and waters.

Lets help Senator Rebekah Warren in her efforts in making this law change for Michigan!!!

Updates

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of you care about cleaning up our roads and waterways. This started as a small idea I had, but looking at these comments makes me realize that it was always a much bigger issue than I understood.

FINALLY. Why are juice and water containers exempt? Makes no sense to just leave them out.

its ridiculous that water bottles dont have a deposit. see them everywhere on the side of the road. time to update this outdated law.

do it. everything should have a deposit if we want people to actually recycle instead of just tossing stuff
