Another Dollar General may be coming to your neighborhood too. Dollar General has a proposal developed by PennTex to destroy a wooded area to build a Dollar General that backs up to four backyards including mine in our community.

This established neighborhood in Abingdon, MD has been able to maintain a quiet, secure neighborhood tucked safely behind the buffer of the wooded area that lines a busy highway and our community. Once the wooded area is gone, the wild life, the Bush River and the communities safety will be compromised. The proposed property was once considered wetland. A stream across the street runs into Bush River. Once the trees and underbrush are stripped, the ground cannot absorb the run off. The 48 parking space parking lot runoff will go directly into our waterways.

Dollar General comes with a violent crime reputation. Placed mainly in low income communities, cash is the most common transaction. However, Dollar General will not hire security guards to protect the employees or their stores. Robbers take full advantage of available cash with nothing but an associate to stop them.There are many incidents of violent robberies and murder.

The concern for this neighborhood is...what is to stop these very same people from coming into our relatively safe neighborhood looking for their next robbery or worse? We must stop this Dollar General store from destroying our safety, our privacy, and the value of our homes.
