STOP Unlawful Health and Safety Issues NOW!

Petition to ESS and Winslow School District Administrators

We are ESS Winslow Township District School Employees employed for the 2021-2022 school year. ESS long-term employees are experiencing safety issues with being locked out with students and not having access to enter the building. This happens with ESS employees employed in after and before care programs and during outside time with the students. ESS long-term employees recently have been waiting to have access to enter the building but have waited for several minutes due to the staff not allowing them in on time. This is a hindrance to the classroom and the students daily routine. Without security card access, long-term ESS employees cannot perform their duties in a timely manner and is a safety concern to not only the employees but the students. This is also an issue with key card access to classrooms.

ESS does not follow OSHA’s or the CDC’s safety and health guidelines as it uses a vague job description of assisting with personal care to students. Critical resources are not made available to use should we be exposed to deadly disease. Having OSHA’s and CDC’s guidelines in place will lessen ESS workers’ contact with diseases when changing diapers. ESS has chosen to make the OSHA trainings optional to its employees, when in fact OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens should be mandatory.

ESS has not given mandatory trainings for several years and are just now stating this school year 2021-2022 that these trainings are and has always been mandatory for us to keep our jobs. Theses trainings can not be taken during our work hours but we are expected to complete them during our time off. Winslow Township Board of Education according to ESS will NOT pay for time spent to complete the trainings.
