This is a petition to benefit the safety of the children and faculty of the preschool classes in the HT Burt Lifelong Learning Center. We are asking for the simple measure of closing and locking the double doors that lead from the vestibule to the preschool wing. These are the main lockable doors that separate the children from the main welcoming area, as well as from the Alternative Education High School. Though the main entrance is locked, the door is frequently opened by whomever happens to be in the vestibule, for anyone who approaches, without regard to, or knowledge of, whether that person belongs there or not. Furthermore, there are no locked doors between the alt. ed. wing and the preschool wing. The double doors, to which this petition refers, would serve as an extra source of protection, for our preschool children and teachers, from any questionable characters that may make their way into the building, and allow the faculty to make the decision of whether or not a visitor is a trusted person before he/she has access to the preschool classrooms.
