This is an advocacy project for the Library and Information Technician program at Durham College in Oshawa, Canada by Samantha Askew and Katherine Butler. The goal of this project is to raise awareness of the Government planing to close 7 of 11 Fisheries and Oceans Canada Libraries by 2015.

There is aproximately 660,000 documents held across all 11 with plans to consolidate the entire collection into 2 main facilities and 2 auxiliary facilities.

The loss of the libraries are made in light of a recent major overhaul to thr Fisheries Act in 2012 to eliminate parts of it which hindered government plans for resources exportation and development.

This is ridiculous. You cant just destroy historical records and expect it not to have consequences later on.
