jjjjjjjjjjjddThe Washington State University administration has decided to close the doors to the Fischer Agricultural Sciences Library, Brain Education Library, and Architecture Library, forever.  Thousands of students, staff and faculty depend upon the books, journals, space, computers and personnel in these libraries, to enrich their personal and academic lives, as well as, their university community.  While the hard books and resources are vital to any library, the sense of community libraries create are invaluable.  There is no doubt that the wider WSU community will be negatively impacted by these library closures.  As students we can decide that we want to keep these libraries open!

If you have been student, staff or faculty member at WSU for any length of time you will know how crucial these libraries are.  You are also probably familiar with how jam-packed Holland and Terrell and Owen Sci. and Eng. can be at certain times of the day/school year.  Closing the Ag. Sci., Brain, and Architecture Libraries will only lead to more of us depending on fewer resources.

Once these libraries are closed, the CAHNRS, as well as Education and Architecture students will have to travel to Owen and/or Holland and Terrell to access books, journals and computers and/or for down time in between classes.  We suspect that this added travel time and inconvenience will decrease the total number of library visits and books checked out for many students, staff and faculty.

Please let WSU know that you are opposed to the library closures and are in favor of a $20 student fee per academic year, to prevent the closure of Fischer Agricultural Sciences Library, Brain Education Library, and Architecture Library, by signing this petition.

Together we can prevent libraries from closing as well as improve the conditions of all libraries on campus.  With this $20 student fee, improvements will also be made to individual study areas and group study rooms in Holland and Terrell, Owen Science and Engineering and Animal Science Libraries, so that all libraries on campus become a better place for students.

Thanks for your support!  GO COUGS!!

Updates

March 23, 2012

The volume of support has reached a level that necessitates a formal presentation to the university administration. I am currently drafting a letter to the provost to request a meeting on these library closures. Expect a follow up once I have a confirmed time for a sit down with their office.

Ridiculous saving money at the expense of our actual education. Keep them open.

The Ag library is the only place I can actually get work done without it being a total zoo. Please reconsider this WSU.
