Too all CT Residents, Unless you work under a union or garanteed contract you can lose your job at any time. CT is an at-will state which means that for whatever reason or no reason you can leave a job but also for any reason or no reason at all you can be fired. Meaning that if the boss just doesn't like you they can let you go. There are a few exceptions to this rule such as discrimination against age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability but that is not enough. I and many others have been let go because of this non-sense. I was hired to work for a company who stated that in case of an emergency to give 24 hours notice in case of a call out. My wife was seriously ill and had to go to the hospital. I had to work the next day but my wife was going to be in the hospital for a couple of days. unfortunately I wasnt qualified for the family medical leave act (FMLA) because I wasn't with the company long enough. I barely got to meet the manager. (FYI, this company is from out of state with no office in CT) I called the manager and explained the situation and that I needed that morning off. Before I can tell him that I was willing to work the afternoon shift he fired me on the spot. I contacted his boss and his boss was even colder than the manager who hired me. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do legally. He stated that the manager said I had issues. Here is the question; What issues? I met him only once and that was in the interview before he hired me. I have the legal right to ask for a reason if they have one since he said he had one I responded asking what were the issues? I haven't gotten a response yet. Now I know many of you out there have experienced this type of situation or worse. This law has to change. This petition is going to be sent to all of our representatives. In this bad economy we just don't need jobs but job security that prevents a job from letting us go for any old reason or no reason at all. It isn't fair for someone to let you go for just any reason, or no reason at all. I believe it violates our unaliable right to Life, Liberty, and the Persuit of Happiness as stated in the Declaration of Independence.
