The government has finally confirmed that the HMRC offices will remain in East Kilbride. This result belongs entirely to the 620 people who refused to let our town be ignored. I am honestly stunned by what you all achieved together.

We, the undersigned, call on the UK Government to reverse the decision which would see the East Kilbride Centre 1 and Plaza tax offices close. The plan for regional centres is not value for money; would cost jobs; would have a hugely negative impact on the economy of East Kilbride and South Lanarkshire and bring to an end a long and proud association HMRC has had with the area. As we celebrate East Kilbride new town's 70th anniversary, our message to government and HMRC is to Stay In EK.

Build a brand new building in 1995 then sell it to Mapely then decide to move to Glasgow when most of staff are from EK. The power's that be are needing a credibility check. It's not their own money they are playing with but yours along with your future.
HMRC jobs are vital to the community of East Kilbride, many of the jobs will be transferred to Glasgow and Gartcosh. this in turn will create many local people having to commute to these areas and therefore will impact on trains/parking/roads.
HMRC and it's building and workforce have been an essential fabric of civic life for n East Kilbride for decades. The loss of Centre 1 would be a major blow to the town following the loss of Motorola and Rolls Royce as substantial employers in East Kilbride in recent years.
The loss of 2700 jobs from EK will have a negative impact on our local economy. The UK government's plans to save money by relocating has now been found to cost more, and a re-negotiation of the lease hasn't even been considered. Stay in EK!
So many people in our town actually voted Tory on this one pledge alone, that HMRC would stay at Centre One. It is a vital part of the town's economy. It must stay
This is a disgrace that we have to petition this, as it should be common sense for them to see the harm this will do. But as usual the government don't want to lose face.
We need to stay in EK as it will affect people in so many ways. There will be a huge financial cost to staff!

People's livelihoods are more important. Its a false economy, 2700 people not paying tax, spending money in EK has a huge impact on local business and demand in social benefits. Open your eyes!!!!
