Since Len Brown was elected Mayor of Auckland ten days ago, he has admitted to a two-year extra-marital affair, and to providing a reference for his mistress for a job at a Council-controlled gallery. He is also alleged to have behaved inappropriately during work time, and on council premises, and to have accepted freebies from Auckland hotels to facilitate the affair. These allegations are under investigation He claims that these are private matters but they are not; they go to the heart of his integrity and judgment, and his fitness to lead Auckland. We, the undersigned call on Len Brown to stand aside as Mayor of Auckland while the investigation is conducted, and to resign if he is found to have abused his position.
