They actually folded and sent out the confirmation emails about the rent refunds and the cleaning supplies so I guess we really did it. My head is honestly spinning a bit because I spent so many nights awake worrying about those sandpaper floors but wow we got the win.

Petition to the halls office to compensate all students living in St Mary's Student Village for improper living conditions.

1. We demand compensation for the following conditions (at least 4 additional weeks refund of rent):

(i) The gym price be deducted from the payment plan as it is of a poor standard, particularly compared to that of Ffriddoedd, and due to not every student wanting to attend the gym.

(ii) Proper cleaning equipment should be provided to all flats (including studios) as it is impossible to clean the 'sandpaper' floors in any other way than a hoover - this was promised prior to arrival. Upon arrival, rooms were of an unreasonable cleanliness standard.

(iii) We should receive notice of when the contractors will be entering our rooms (specific times) to allow valuables to be protected.

(iv) When contractors enter flats they leave the place tidy and lock the doors after themselves.

(v) We should receive all promised premises such as a bar similar to Bar Uno and a shop on site. There has been no sign of a bar, a cafe or a proper shop. A Coffee machine does not constitute a cafe and the shop is never fully stocked.

(vi) Parking spaces should be available for those who pay for parking permits, and that the work to resurface and paint lines is done quickly so that the parking issue does not continue.

(vii) Promises of additional services before arrival such as a large launderette with online tracking, a shuttle bus, sanitary bins, and communal area cleaners which have not been provided.

(viii) Construction work being carried out at unreasonable times.

(ix) Other issues have included water being turned off without warning, lack of hot water, lack of water pressure, windows not opening, late arrival of kitchen appliances, faulty kitchen appliances, exposed electrical wires, unsecured electrical sockets etc.

(x) The beginning of Semester One is a time for settling in and adjusting to University life, not one for coping with the problems that exist.

2. If Construction Work persists on site, aside from the aforementioned 4 week period, we would like for the co-ordinators of St Mary's Student Village to organise a meeting for all students to be involved with the processes - being kept up to date with the progress of the site, enter into further negotiations to provide us with honest, fair and reasonable explanations along with possible solutions to benefit the students living on site.

3. Based upon the non-exhaustive list, it is unreasonable to expect students to pay full rent whilst the variety of problems exist. The reduction of one weeks' rent has been taken into consideration but nevertheless, most of the issues have existed for over one week.

I really thought this might just fizzle out but the momentum behind this is honestly kind of shocking to me right now. It feels like everyone is finally just as annoyed as I am about the conditions here and that makes me feel like maybe they actually have to listen to us for once.

Bryn Eithen J block Our kitchen door was broken for a good week and fixed at 10 at night. One of our showers was broken for a week and a half. Water was out for about 5 hours. My room lock is only just being fixed after about two and a half weeks. Issues of security.

A half arsed job should not be acceptable just because they are students!! If it was private sector non student accommodation it would be all over the local news.

Bryn Eithin - Our on-site Laundrette only has one fully functioning washing machine; supposed to be shared between 80-odd people. - The toaster in our kitchen sparks whenever you press the eject button. - Water from the sink in my room was dripping from the pipes. - Our large kitchen table was replaced with a table half its size (??)

Townhouse 9 This place is an utter mess. The first week of living here my house had maintenance in pretty much every day because one thing or another wasn't working. I was told the place would be finished when I emailed weeks before and it still isn't, absolutely disgusting that they're still making us pay the full amount of rent!!

should never advertise things that haven't even been built! Limited car spaces, builders in and out of our house, no hot water, water exploding from our toilet, damaged property, no gym, holes in the wall.. £1400 to live in this...

Townhouse 1 - rooms and communal areas are dirty and we were promised a cleaner, I am yet to see one. Builders are still driving around the house when building work should've been completed. We are paying for a gym that we do not actually have access to. They have fitted a household boiler, which will provide hit water for 3 bathrooms when each to
