As you may know, The Gresham-Barlow School District has had to make some critical cuts to the budget. One thing that they are planning to cut out is the speech/debate team. Many students love having the oppurtunity to take part in this as both a class and as an extra-curricular activity. Along with that, colleges look at speech as an important skill and students often earn good scholarships for taking part in it during their high school careers.
Our goal is to inform the district about how important speech is to students and to make sure that it stays in schools so future students can be provided with the opportunity to take the class.
I have requested a formal meeting with the school board to present our case for retaining the speech and debate program. Our current documentation on student scholarship outcomes is now being reviewed by the district budget committee.

The volume of support has secured a formal meeting with the school board representative for next week. I am currently organizing the specific arguments regarding college scholarship impacts to present at that time.

This is ridiculous. You guys find money for everything else but axe the academic programs? Keep the debate team.
