For the past decade, Salem has housed a magnificent Fine Arts program. The Salem Marching Band has won over two hundred awards and various honors due to the dedication of it's teachers. The Choral department has received a ranking of Superior in multiple categories. The Salem Theatre has been recognized state-wide and nationally at the Georgia State Thespian Conference and the International Thespian Festival, respectively. The Art department has developed student skills and decorated the commons area with it's fantastic student art. The school is known for the top-notch Fine Arts department. For the school to remain a school that creates standards for other high schools, the Fine Arts Department must be recognized as an integral part of the curriculum and an important part of the education of its students.
Reaching two hundred and fifty signatures serves as a reminder of how much this community values a creative education. It is heartening to see so many people acknowledge that the fine arts are essential to our school identity rather than an optional addition.

Reaching one hundred signatures reminds me that this concern is shared by many who value what our students build in the studio and on stage. It is heartening to see this level of interest in protecting the future of our arts program.

The band program is the heart of Salem. You cut the arts and you kill the school spirit. Keep funding it.

The theater program gave me so much confidence in high school. These kids deserve the same opportunities we had.

Totally bogus. That art department is the only reason the school looks decent in the commons. Leave it alone.
