We are writing this petition which is about us, Sorbonne University students, requesting the university to remain with the previous grading system. We are being in a very risky situation where there is a high probability of failing or having lower grades. We have been retaking exams and the new system is choosing the retaken exam’s grades and not the highest of the two exam sessions.

We believe that every university wants to help its students to thrive and excel in their studies. We look at our grades and reflect on the reasons behind our performance. It is our responsibility to learn what is necessary from the past to grasp what is being taught in the present. Every student in the globe experiences it. This certainly happens during the semester, and sometimes we get low and sometimes high grades. However, in the University’s new grading system, we are more likely to have low grades, and this is not helping the students move on to the next level.

As you are aware, coronavirus has impacted all of our psychology and mental health. Remember the time when someone got tested positive for the virus in the residence and the entire residence was in a lockdown due to that? It was a very stressing time and I wasn’t able to be productive at all, and I’m sure that the residents agree with me Also the online classes are not the best for some students compared to the face to face teaching, although we are aware that teachers are doing their best. I am certain that it had also affected our performance in our final exams whether it is in our first or second session.

All we are asking from the University’s administration is to bring back the old grading system where they choose the best grade out of the two examination sessions. The previous grading system would also help students of majors other than physics who are obligated to pass on their main subjects. Even if the total average is more than 10 out of 20. Therefore, we would appreciate it if you consider our request.
