Philadelphia is a great city. Home of our Founding Fathers, the Liberty Bell, and Independence Hall. Home of hardworking people, the blue collar, and a place where respect is not given but is earned. Philly is tough. Philly is loud. It is cheese steaks, parking in the middle of the street, and yelling "YO!" to have everyone on the street look to see if your talking to them. In a city as tough as any other, there is not a statue for the toughest resident...Smokin' Joe Frazier. Joe Frazier, and undersized (5'11) Heavyweight Champion of the World who took on, and beat the best, handing the man who some call "The Greatest" his first loss and taking his title. He was World Heavyweight Champion from 2/16/1970-1/22/1973, became the first American to win the Olympic Heavyweight Gold in 1964, Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year 1967, 1970, 1973, and was involved in the Ring Magazine Fight of the Year 4 different occasions. If anyone from The Fighting City of Philadelphia deserves a statue its Smokin' Joe...after all we did give one to Rocky and he's not even real.
