Ban smartphones at Heathcote school!

Smartphones in schools are having a detrimental impact on our children’s mental health wellbeing and academic success. Research has linked early smartphone use to anxiety, depression, cyberbullying, and poorer academic performance. In light of this, we are calling for a ban on smartphones at Heathcote school to protect our children from these harms.

As a retired headteacher I totally agree with this. In my primary school in Cornwall no one ever thought to bring a phone and it made life so much more simple. Best of luck with the challenges you may face from some parents but are you doing the right thing.

Please ban mobile phones in the school. They serve no purpose and we wish our children off the screens

There is no need for children to bring phones to school. We need this to be a rule from school to avoid peer pressure

As a mental health nurse working for CAMHS we are seeing an increased amount of young people struggle due to social media and use of smartphones. I anticipate most parents would be keen for this ban to allow children to learn in a safe environment free from distraction and most importantly increased risk of bullying. I really hope that this is considered at healthcote to protect our children’s mental health and wellbeing.

They are banned in year 7 for Oakley (one of the local secondary schools) would be great for Heathcote to support this!
