In an effort to make Hixson Pike from S Curves through Barton Ave a safer, more walkable and less noisy street, we have to slow traffic. This is a residential area therefore 40 mph is not an appropriate speed limit.
After meeting with CDOT traffic engineers, I felt the need to start this petition to get them to listen to the concerned residents. They told me that the only way to slow traffic is more traffic enforcement by police and traffic camera, which are now illegal. Therefore, the only way to slow traffic is a change in traffic pattern. I do not know what that would look like but we need more blinking crosswalks, more sidewalks and more turn lane - even possibly going down to 3 lanes with extending the turn lane throughout the stretch. The MOTORCYCLES ARE OUT OF CONTROL! We need to get this stretch of road changed NOW!

Seeing this much backing makes the exhaustion of dealing with the city feel a bit more manageable. We are clearly not alone in wanting a safer road for our neighborhood.

I live on Hixson Pike close to Dartmouth and the motor cycles use Hixson Pike as a speed way. They go extremely fast and the noise is terrible! I have witnessed on Many occasions tricks being done ... standing up, popping wheelies, ect. I would love for it to be safer and patrolled more.
Cars and motorcycles go extremely fast in this area. I don't pull out on Hixson Pike from East Dallas anymore, because the cars go so fast. I drive down to Fernway to enter Hixson Pike. This stretch of road is a death trap. Charlotte Burkhart
I live on Hixson Pike at the S Curves and the traffic and noise is out of control. It’s very dangerous to cross the road and I feel unsafe when I ride my bicycle down Hixson Pike because of speeding traffic. Please help keep our neighborhood safe.
I strongly support traffic calming efforts and enhanced pedestrian/bike infrastructure particularly at the Dartmouth/Tremont/Hixson Pike intersections.
Additionally, the merge at the Tremont/Dorchester intersection creates a lot of dangerous scenarios where cars run the yellow/red to cut into the right lane. I've seen 5 wrecks there in 5 years. I'm sure there are more that I didn't witness.
I too have a petition with 100 signatures from City of CHA citizens concerned with the dangerous speeding and the nearly round the clock daily noise caused by the mufflerless vehicles. The City Code ordinances need to be enforced; our police officers have little recourse in enforcing the speeding motorcylists as the CPD policy is wisely not to pursue. However, the scofflaws know that they will not be pursued, plus many civer their license plate, so cameras are of no use. The city code ordinance re decibel level limits is currently unenforceable accirding to police officers I have spoken with, because the instrument in use to measure decibel levels does not hold up in court cases. This is a quality of life issue and lack of enforcement of ordinances that predate the current Covid19 crisis.
The annoyance is even further north than S-curves; we Live above the Rivermont food city plaza, and are constantly disturbed by the screaming motorcycle noise

I live on this section of the street and the sound of the motorcycles can be deafening in the house. My children are scared to walk the dog because the traffic is so fast and loud. Please slow this traffic! It is dangerous.
