We are gathering signatures to show support for a return to in-person learning for kindergartners at Slavens.
After a couple of weeks of remote learning, we know this does not work for our youngest students. Despite the amazing efforts of the teachers and staff, excessive screen time and isolated learning are more of a problem than a solution. Kindergartners need immersive experiences, live instruction, classmates, and community.

Watching my own child struggle through a screen every day is heartbreaking. I have been spending my nights printing these signatures to hand deliver because the district needs to realize that virtual learning for five year olds is not working.

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that I am not alone in my frustration watching my child struggle behind a screen. It is clear that the community understands our kindergartners need to be back in the classroom where they belong.

My daughter is so lonely sitting at home. She needs her teacher and her classmates. Let them go back already.
My son is struggling so much with the ipads. He just needs to be in a classroom with his friends.
Really hope the district listens to us this time. Remote learning isnt working for 5 year olds.

We want our kids back at school because believe it’s important for their mental health. Thank you!
Kindergarten is such a huge part of our childrens academic future, its the beginning of their first scholastic experience and this will form their outlook on their education for the next 12 years. If they have a bad experience in kindergarten, they will not look forward to school ever! I want my son in school learning and getting interaction with other kids every day of the week with structure, routine, and interaction with his peers. Being online has been so stressful and difficult for all involved, especially for those of us that have our kids in a pod, nannies, baby sitter or discover link. Their attention spans to sit in front of a screen, be engaged, participate, be focused, and NOT get distracted for a long period of time is almost non existent after almost 2 weeks of this. It's crucial for our kindergarteners to get back to in person classes 100% M thru F ASAP. Colorado's numbers have DROPPED significantly since July and with the proper precautions set in place I see no reason to continue online when our children are struggling on so many levels.

THIS IS LONG OVERDUE. The kids are falling behind and sitting in front of a screen is not teaching them anything.
