Shooters call for an inquiry into the Christchurch terror attack
Prime Minister,
We call upon you to make a public inquiry into the horrific attack upon the Muslim New Zealanders in Christchurch. The nation deserves to know exactly what happened and how it came to happen.
Whether it was another failure of Police, a failure of the security service or a failure of our Arms Laws. Or simply the unpredictable actions of a monster.
Only then can we act to prevent such a tragedy from ever occurring again.
It concerns us greatly that you are rushing to institute changes to the Arms Act. More so that this is being done in back rooms, by unknown people and without public consultation. That is not democracy.
Please remember that this is not a binary proposition. This is not just a question of if a rushed new law will do good or not. It could also do great harm.
Bad law could repeat the mistakes of other nations and drive guns underground. Where criminals and terrorist groups can quickly acquire them. Making another terror attack much more likely.
We understand that the deceitful Police Association will be pressuring you but just remember - the easiest way to spot a conman is that they create a false sense of urgency.
It has been thirty years since something remotely comparable has happened in New Zealand. We have time to do this right.

There needs to be rational discussions with all affected parties including gun owners before any changes to legislation. Remember the NZ Police considered the individual responsible for the terror attack a “fit and proper person” to be issued a firearms license.
I’m a professional rabbiter , I use MSSA firearms every working day , I also represented New Zealand with Pistol New Zealand and 19 other Kiwis largest ever team we have sent at the SASS world championship in Alberque New Mexico last July.
This matter needs thoroughly investigating with a holistic approach, not knee jerk firearm law changes, as I believe personally under current law the firearm in question used was illegal under the attackers licence restrictions.
Changing laws that affect 250,000 people who use firearms for hunting, pest control and sport will not work. What happened is a tragedy but no changes to law are required. What is required is the issue of mental health and its low priority in the health sector.
I don't believe that emotionally charged knee-jerk laws will ever do good to law abiding citizens. All that will happen, is punish those that go by the law, and not effect criminals, because, to put it simply; when do criminals follow the law?
You need to know how a catastrophy happened in order to prevent one from happening again.
Those intent on mass shooting dont care about laws, and will find the gun they wish to use. Meanwhile all others are penalised

I believe that the government is rushing to make changes to the Arms Act without proper consultation with people from the shooting fraternity. We live in a democratic society in New Zealand and governments proposed changes to the Arms Act does not constitute democracy.
